Buy a copy of MURSE by Todd Helland for $19.95 For four decades I worked as a MURSE. That’s the nickname given to us male nurses. It was a title given in playful fun and never taken as a negative. Mine was a career of diverse opportunities: emergency medicine, psychology, corrections, and the OR. My colleagues and my experiences were equally diverse as the jobs I performed. I grew up in The Mayo Clinic city of Rochester, MN. Almost everyone in the 60’s worked either at the “Big Blue” IBM or in the medical field, my family did both. It was a very sheltered life during the turbulent decade, most of us barely knew what was going on in the rest of the world. Instead we enjoyed long lazy summers of hanging out with all the neighborhood kids, protected and at peace. As I got older the world hit hard and my journey in reality began. Enjoy my stories of working in various exciting environments, filled with humor, tragedy and insights. Join my travels across the country by motorcycle and small airplanes. I have had an esoteric life with my high school sweetheart, wonderful children and now four grandsons. I have had a close personal relationship with the Father my entire life. Hopefully someone will read these words and think, “I never thought of it like that.” Then I can feel at peace, knowing I have had a purpose filled life.
